We are on campus of Slippery Rock University to educate our community on issues of campus violence. We specifically address sexual assault/rape, dating violence and stalking. In addition to educational outreach we also provide advocacy services to survivors of violence. Services are free of charge and are completely confidential.
The Bridge Project, located in the Women’s Center is a safe space. This simply means that we do NOT discriminate or judge. It is our goal to provide a respectful and encouraging environment where people feel safe and welcome. In keeping with the values system at SRU, we welcome all persons regardless of age, creed, disability, ethnic heritage, gender, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability or socioeconomic status. Current Events: TIB
BUZZ! Since those beginnings, Thursdays in Black has been taken up by communities in Bosnia, Israel, the Sudan, New Zealand and throughout Europe. It has more recently begun happening in the United States, mostly on college campuses. The Bridge Project initiated the campaign on this campus for the first time in 2004. Sexual Assault, domestic violence and stalking has an impact on all parts of our campus and community and every person can be part of the solution. To schedule a program or be more involved in events on our campus, contact the Bridge Project @ SRU’s Women’s Center by calling 724-738-2121 or emailing Karla Fonner (karla.fonner@sru.edu) 16 Days Campaign This year the Bridge Project will be coordinating events relating to the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence promoted by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership at Rutgers University. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence uses the 16 days between International day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25) and International Human Rights Day (December 10) to reinforce that eliminating all forms of violence against women is a human rights issue and that the act of perpetrating violence against women s a human rights violation. The 16 Days campaign brings the human rights framework to the heart of its work and utilizes it to ensure that both state and non-state actors are held accountable for acts of violence against women. This year the Women’s Center and the Bridge Project are working to create awareness of the Global Epidemic of Violence against women. In over fifty-five countries, campaigns are led by both men and women, even though the focus is on educating men and boys. In some countries it is a general public education effort focused on ending violence against women. DAWN puts a human face on a tragedy that has received precious little
attention – and one which is surprisingly similar to the situation in
Ciudad Juarez, on the other side of the U.S. border. Dawn Crey, Ramona
Wilson and Daleen Kay Bosse are just three of the estimated 500 Aboriginal
women who have gone missing or been murdered in Canada over the past 30
years. This engrossing film illustrates the deep historical, social and
economic factors that contribute to the epidemic of violence against
Aboriginal women. It highlights the disturbing, world-wide culture of
impunity that allows murders of women – especially those who are poor,
indigenous, or sex workers – to go unsolved and unpunished.
