The Office of Campus Recreation’s mission is to enhance the participant’s quality of life through the utilization of recreational facilities, traditional and contemporary programs and services to assist in learning and applying the wellness concepts of physical, intellectual, social, emotional, environmental and spiritual health.

The Office of Campus Recreation provides diverse facilities and programs that offer challenging, adventurous and enjoyable experiential learning opportunities.  These opportunities complement the mission of Slippery Rock University by enriching and enhancing the quality of life and educational experiences of the university and local communities.  The office promotes physical, emotional, and social growth by encouraging the development of lifelong skills and positive attitudes through recreational activities.

The Office of Campus Recreation administers and coordinates the facility use of the Aebersold Student Recreation Center and intramural recreational sports complex.  Campus Recreation programs in aquatics, fitness, intramural sports, informal recreation, outdoor adventures, safety and special events.  These programs are utilized as learning laboratories for wellness concepts and overall student development.  Campus Recreation programs and services will be reviewed annually by the Advisory Council and a report with any recommendations forwarded to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life and the Vice President for Student Life.

In striving to meet the vision and mission of the Office of Campus Recreation, the Campus Recreation Team is committed to:

• Promoting ROCK PRIDE among students, patrons and guests by fostering a caring, safe and friendly environment to host traditional and contemporary recreation and extracurricular educational programming opportunities for adventure, competition, fellowship, fun and building self-esteem, while developing sports and leadership skills to enhance enrich and promote lifelong learning and positive lifestyles.
• Providing for Student Development by offering experiential learning opportunities through programs, employment, practicum and internship opportunities focusing on communication, entrepreneurial spirit, organization, leadership and managerial practices that will assist in assuring a comprehensive educational experience.
• Providing quality Customer Service in order to recruit and retain students, patrons and guests with the understanding that we exist to serve our constituents and thus are committed to consistently meet and exceed their expectations.
• Practicing ethical and responsible Fiscal Integrity as superior stewards of our auxiliary budget in order to appropriately invest all generated revenue in financial planning and operations.
• Promoting Leadership by Example through modeling (“practicing what we preach”); healthy lifestyles, dedication, responsibility, open two-way communications, accountability, integrity, collaboration, courtesy and respect. 
• Appreciating Diversity by accepting and respecting differences.
  

• The Office of Campus Recreation is an auxiliary operation with distinct budgets and funding sources for the operation and programming of the various components of the office. Budget Specifics are:
• The Office of Campus Recreation budget covers the operation and programming of the ARC and the outdoor intramural recreational sports complex. Revenue is generated through the recreation center fee assessed of current Slippery Rock University students, ARC membership sales, facility rentals, program fees and additional ancillary revenue streams. The primary purposes of this auxiliary budget are, but not limited to:
• Retire the bond on the ARC.
• Provide for lifecycle maintenance.
• Provide for personnel costs and operational expenses.
• Provide for intramural recreational sports complex, and recreation complex, facility enhancement and expansion and preservation. 
• Provide revenue used to support the regularly scheduled programs offered, in but not limited to, aquatic classes, climbing wall clinics and programs, cycle aerobics, fitness programs, group exercise classes, outdoor recreation, health certifications, informal recreation, intramural sports (A portion of the funding to support intramural sports is enhanced from the Student Government Association Cooperative Activities Board), kayak roll clinics, outdoor adventure trips and other special events and programs.

This budget is inclusive of all funds collected, generated revenue and funds rolled in from all the Campus Recreation Funds as well as those that remain from Recreation Center Construction Fund.

The priority use for the facilities that Office of Campus Recreation is for, The Aebersold Student Recreation Center, Intramural recreational Sports Complex, Ski lodge and Campground is a follows:
• Campus Recreation Activities.
• Hosting academic classes weekdays until noon.
• Facility Rentals.
