The Pennsylvania State contingent of NIRSA, the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association, has banned together to form PIRSA- Pennsylvania Intramural and Recreational Sports Association. PIRSA will allow the smaller schools as well as the larger schools to have a voice as to what goes on in our state as it pertains to NIRSA. PIRSA's purpose is to promote and enhance the quality of recreational sports programs in various settings throughout the state by means of professional meetings, publications, dissemination of ideas and maintenance of policies consistent with the philosophy of NIRSA.

Terry Dougherty from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, will serve as past President. The Regional Conference in Syracuse allowed PIRSA to vote early for the new Executive Offices for PIRSA.  A committee has been assigned to review the election process for the future.

2006 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS:

KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY hosted the 2006 PIRSA State conference on Thursday and Friday, September 28 and 29.  A variety of presentations from professionals and students pertaining to contemporary campus recreation topics attracted 57 professionals and students. An evening social to renew acquaintances and make new ones was enjoyed by all participants.  A highlight of the conference was visiting Kutztown's newly opened recreation center.  The facilities grand opening was conducted the following day, September 30.
