The Center for Student Involvement & Leadership sponsors a number of leadership development programs and services. Opportunities to serve in leadership roles are available in many other departments and programs on campus. Several opportunities are featured through links from this page.
The Leadership Alliance is a program designed to involve student leaders at Slippery Rock University with student leaders from Westminster College, Thiel College, Youngstown State University, Lake Erie College, and Walsh University. Students participate in retreats and workshops where they get to know one another, learn skills related to leadership, and discuss issues and concerns regarding campus challenges. The Office of Residence Life seeks student leaders to serve as Community Assistants in the residence halls. Responsibilities include facilitating community with the residence hall, assisting students with academic and personal concerns, developing and implementing educational and social programs, reporting health, safety, and behavioral concerns, and completing other administrative responsibilities.
The Honors Program offers students the opportunity to challenge themselves both in the classroom and out. Honors classes provide students with a fast paced working environment and help students to maintain a dedicated study routine. The Honors Program offers several leadership opportunities to serve on their executive board, work with a committee or join the Peer Mentoring Program. The Student Government Association (SGA) is an association on campus that governs the clubs and organizations on campus. In addition, SGA provides funds for the majority of events and activities that occur on campus. SGA provides an excellent opportunity for students to expand their leadership abilities by running for an executive board or senate seat. SRU’s Army ROTC provides those interested with the opportunity to prepare for service after graduation. Cadets learn values and skills that will later supplement their potential promotion as a Second Lieutenant. The Council of Student Leaders is a discussion forum for student organization presidents. Presidents are invited to attend monthly meetings to offer suggestions, share information, and participate in leadership development activities. Educational seminars are offered routinely by the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership. These seminars are generally open to any interested student. Information concerning educational seminars and workshops is usually posted on campus bulletin boards. Leadership
resources are available in the Center for Student Involvement &
Leadership. Brochures, pamphlets, and other materials are available
on a wide range of topics including developing leadership skills, stress
management, parliamentary procedure, organization, development, etc.
Materials are available for review during regular office hours. Contact Information
