Indoor Soccer

 

Team:  Each team can play with a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 5 players on the playing field.  For Co-Rec teams, the number of male players may be equal to, or less than, but not greater than one more the number of female players.  Teams must maintain these numbers for the entire game.  The maximum number of players on the team roster is 10 participants.

Equipment:  Appropriate gym wear is required.  Soccer balls and mesh jerseys will be provided.

Rules:  Adaptations of outdoor soccer apply.

Referee’s Authority:  The referee has authority to rule promptly, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, on any situation not specifically covered in the rules.  The referee’s decisions are final in all matters pertaining to the game.

Protest Procedure:  Verbal On Site - Protests may be made on eligibility and rule interpretation; never on a judgment call by officials.  Only the Team Captain or designated game captain may file a protest.  Rule and procedure protests must be filed at the time of the incident and before play resumes.  The on-site supervisor will first attempt to handle the protest. If this ruling is not satisfactory to the Team Captain a written protest can be filed immediately after the activity with the Intramural on-site supervisor.  If the protesting team wins the contest, the protest is automatically withdrawn.  Written Protest - Must be presented to the Intramural Coordinator within 24 hours after the event.  All protests will be given to the Intramural Coordinator for a ruling.  Protest forms will be available at every contest.

Playing Time:  A game will consist of a two 18 minute halves with a 3 minute halftime.  Regular season games will not include an overtime period.  Playoff games will have an overtime period of 5 minutes.  Overtime play will not be sudden death.  If teams are still tied after the first overtime period, continuous overtime periods will commence with no breaks between periods.
 
The Game:  Game is started by an indirect kick at the centerline and will be determined by a coin toss.  The ball must go forward, and the opposing team must be five yards away.

Fouls: 
-High Kicks
-Dangerous Kicks directly at someone
-Sliding tackles
-Intentional touching of ball with hands or arms
-Kicking feet up in a dangerous manner near an opponent
-Placing hands on the wall to play a ball
-Pushing, shoving tripping, rough play, abusive language
-Interfering with goalie releases

Penalties:  Indirect kicks are taken on the spot for dangerous kicks, sliding tackles, rough play, high feet on kicks.  Direct kicks are taken for intentional handballs.  Penalty kicks are taken when defense has intentional handball in penalty area from the foul line (not the key) or fouls of any kind in the penalty area.  No player is permitted in front of kick except the goalie.  Goals are scored when the ball crosses wholly over the imaginary line, extending from goal post to goal post.  The ball must be touched by two players except when direct rules are given

Goalie Privileges:  Goalies may stop the ball or catch the ball with any part of the body while in the penalty area.  Goalies may leave the penalty area.  Goalies may not use their hands outside the penalty area.  Goalies may throw, kick, or roll the ball after gaining possession.  Goalies can be penalized for delaying the game.  Goalies may not throw a ball across the midfield line on the fly.

Rule Adaptations:  Corner kicks are taken when the defensive team (including goalie) last touched the ball before it goes into the back of the goal net.  Goalies are given the ball when the ball is last touched by offense and gets caught in back of goal net.  A ball is considered out of play when is above the red line located 10 feet above the playing surface.  Balls out of bounds are given at the spot where it went out and is given to the other team except on end line situations.
