Job Description
2008-2009 INTERNSHIP

Slippery Rock University's Office of Campus Recreation is currently accepting applicaitons for the 2008-2009 Campus Recreation Internship. The internship is a full-time, nine-month internship with an emphasis in Intramural Sports programming. The position will begin August 18, 2008 and run through the week of May 4 and will be paid an hourly rate of $7.17. The internship includes a Aebersold Student Recreation Center Membership and Pennsylvania Intramural Recreational Sports Association conference attendance and membership. The review of applications will begin May 12.

INTERNSHIP PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the intern is to assist the Coordinator of Intramural Sports and Facility Operations in conducting a strong Intramural Sports program as well as provide department wide assistance to Campus Recreation. A primary reason for employing the intern is their ability to work 37.5 hours a week including evening and weekend hours.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Office of Campus Recreation will offer a paid internship each academic year (fall and spring semesters). Both internal, Slippery Rock University (SRU), and external, non SRU students, will be eligible for the internship. Depending upon the situation, the same person may have the internship for both semesters of the academic year or two separate people for each semester. Students taking the internship to complete their academic requirements will work the necessary hours to complete their internship. Interns taking the internship for professional development will work 1178 hours each academic year.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications: A successful performance in an on-campus interview and current certifications in CPR and First Aid are required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education or related field is preferred. The internship is also available to applicants who need to complete an internship to fulfill degree requirements. Preference will be given to applicants who have Campus Recreation/Intramural Sports programming experience, which includes hiring and training officials, marketing, and coordinating facility/field schedules. Experience maintaining web pages and using IM Track or comparable software also preferred.
COMPENSATION

The intern will be paid at the current student employee hourly rate.
Internal interns will be paid out of the Campus Recreation budget.
External interns will be paid out of the Campus Recreation Foundation Account.
