Congratulations go out to Nick Scuilli who was chosen as the 2007-2008 recipient of the Dr. James "Gym" McFarland Award. This award is presented annually each spring to the outstanding Campus Recreation Student Employee of the year. Nick has been a member of the Campus Recreation Student Employee Team for the past two years. He has been involved in a number of Campus Recreation activities including intramural sports, outdoor adventure programs, playing and servicing as the president of the men's volleyball club. He has assisted in professional preparation as a Sport Management major by attending the PIRSA (Pennsylvania Intramural Recreational Sports Association) conference, the NIRSA (National Intramural Recreational Sports Association) Student Lead ON conference and assisting with Special Olympics and the National Women's Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. Throughout his involvement he has displayed the Dr. McFarland characteristics of Leadership, Enthusiasm and Teamwork.

Second Annual Brian’s Ride Mini Triathlon: Campus Recreation conducted the Second Annual Brian’s Ride Mini Triathlon on Sunday, May 4 with 174 competitors and 9 teams.  The field included many SRU students and community members participating in their first triathlon.  One of the day’s highlights was a 71 year old female athlete completing her first triathlon.  Compelte results can be found at runhigh.com. The event generated over $2600.  All proceeds benefit the Brian’s Ride (briansride.org) for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  This event was initiated by a number of Campus Recreation student employees who wanted to help fellow SRU student Brian McCandless who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.  Last summer, Brian initiated “Brian’s Ride” a 2000 mile bicycle ride from Pittsburgh to Tallahassee, Florida and back.   This year Brian will be riding to the state of Maine and back to Pittsbugh.
